The completion of one of the most impressive restoration projects in Latvia in the last decade, the restoration of Riga Castle Castela, is nearing. Currently, 96% of the construction work has been completed.
The historical Remter hall has been completed with floor and wall finishes. Engineering communications have been installed, windows and surfaces have been restored, metal structures have been mounted, stairs have been installed and restored, and dolomite slabs, cement tiles, and doors have been installed in the southern wing of the castle.
The main goal of the reconstruction and restoration work on Riga Castle is to preserve its historical heritage and create modern museum spaces. Construction work is proceeding according to the planned schedule, and soon the Latvian National History Museum will be able to return to its historic home.
The total area of the Riga Castle construction project is 11,900 square meters, with approximately 6,700 square meters already renovated as a result of the first and second phases of construction. The project’s total budget is nearly 26 million euros.
LNK Industries is overseeing the first and second phases of the Riga Castle construction project, while the client, State Real Estate, is funding the project with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture’s allocated state budget and the European Regional Development Fund (ERAF). The restoration of Riga Castle is being conducted according to the construction project developed by the “Riga Castle Castela project” public foundation. Construction supervision is being conducted by SIA “Būvalts.” The project is expected to be completed in 2024.
