Reconstruction of the Vilnius – Kaunas – Klaipėda Highway
As part of the A1 Vilnius—Kaunas—Klaipėda highway reconstruction, AS “LNK Industries” is carrying out construction work near the entrance to Klaipėda; we have completed the demolition of both overpasses and more than 50% of the total work. The project is being carried out at the request of AS “Via Lietuva,” with completion expected by November of this year. The total project cost is nearly 5.9 million euros, excluding VAT.
At the Klaipėda entrance, the demolition of the second overpass, which is 68.2 meters long and 14.7 meters wide, has already been completed. We have also finished repair work on the overpass’s concrete surfaces, intermediate supports, and span structures. Soil replacement has been carried out in the final support zone, where a retaining wall and ground anchors were installed. Additionally, the pile construction for both the main road overpass and the pedestrian crossing has been completed.
Reconstruction work is ongoing, including the manufacturing and concreting the overpass span structures, beams, retaining walls, and the foundations of the final supports.
“The traffic flow on the A1 highway between Vilnius and Klaipėda is intense. The overpass reconstruction at the entrance to Klaipėda, which runs over the railway tracks, is taking place alongside continuous vehicular traffic, a major challenge for us as builders. Currently, one side of the reconstructed overpass is already open to traffic, and we have begun the reconstruction of the second side, which is slightly ahead of schedule. Completing this project will undoubtedly improve traffic conditions between the two largest cities in Lithuania,” emphasizes AS “LNK Industries” director Genadijs Kamkalovs.
After the reconstruction, the A1 highway will allow a speed limit of 130 kilometers per hour in certain sections and 110 kilometers per hour in winter. This is the fourth project AS “LNK Industries” is carrying out in Lithuania this year. Earlier this summer, AS “LNK Industries” completed three major projects at the Port of Klaipėda – constructing two quay wall support structures and establishing an anchoring system, marking the final phase of the Southern Quay reconstruction.
