“Tince’s House” to Support Stray Cats Across Latvia

AS “LNK Industries” and the “LNK Charity Foundation”, in cooperation with the Cat Rescue Centre “REMI”, are launching a new charity project, “Tince’s House”, within the framework of which 100 insulated wooden shelters for stray cats will be produced and installed throughout Latvia over the course of a year. The aim of the project is to provide safe shelter for cats forced to live without protection, while also encouraging social responsibility and a humane attitude towards animals.

The shelters will be insulated and adapted to Latvia’s climate conditions, providing protection during frost, rain, and summer heat, while also creating a safe place where cats can rest and sleep. The shelters are intended to be placed in courtyards, industrial areas, allotment gardens, and other locations where stray cats live alongside people. They will also help create a cleaner and more organised environment by establishing local, controlled feeding points for cats.

The project was inspired by the story of a little cat named Tince, who was found outdoors during winter in critical condition because she had nowhere to shelter from the cold. Tince’s tragic fate highlighted the urgent need for safe and permanent shelter for stray cats and became the symbol behind this initiative.

“This project is not only about shelters – it is about our attitude as a society and our ability to take responsibility for the vulnerable,” says Artjoms Milovs, Chairman of the Board of AS “LNK Industries” and the “LNK Charity Foundation”. “We want to create a practical and sustainable solution that helps animals survive while also contributing to a cleaner urban environment and strengthening community involvement. Tince’s story reminds us that even small acts of support can mean a life saved.”

Special attention within the project will be paid to the responsible placement of the shelters. They will be provided to residents and communities where regular care for stray cats is ensured and where installation has been coordinated with the landowner or municipality. This will help create organised and well-maintained stray cat care points throughout Latvia.

Laura Podžuka, co-founder of the Cat Rescue Centre “REMI”, emphasises the broader social importance of the project:

“It is important to draw public attention to the fact that this project will help cats survive both in urban and rural areas – cats whose lives on the streets are the direct consequence of human irresponsibility. ‘Tince’s House’, created in memory of little Tince, is a step towards a better world and society – towards compassion, awareness, and open hearts.”

The project will also serve as a public awareness initiative promoting responsible action, animal welfare, and the importance of community involvement. Even a small space for a warm shelter can become a decisive factor in saving a life.

Residents of Latvia are invited to apply for a shelter in their neighbourhood if stray cats permanently live in the area and regular care for them is ensured. The application form is available on the website of the “LNK Charity Foundation” under the section “Tince’s House”

“Tince’s House – always open for cats” is a call not to close doors – neither physically nor symbolically – and to preserve an open and compassionate society.
