This is a unique bulk terminal in the Baltic States that handles a wide range of both inbound and outbound cargo and has a cargo turnover of 2 million tonnes per year. The facility boasts a gantry crane of 600 tonnes, rarely seen in European ports. To ensure structural stability that matches EU regulatory requirements, LNK Industries implemented a number of innovative solutions:

●  Creation of a 120,000-cubic-metre-large embankment to strengthen the soil on the construction site, using a drainage technology to reduce the settling time of the embankment from several years to just eight months by discharging water from lower sludge layers through 20-metre-deep drains inserted into the soil.

●  Construction of a quay retaining wall designed in collaboration with Witteween+Bos, a Dutch construction engineering company. The wall is secured by 96 tubular piles, 140 centimetres in diameter, specially designed and produced for the project. Driven to a depth of 28 metres, the piles are interconnected by Larsen grooved piles and additionally secured with two 52-metre-long anchors each.

●  During construction, the water level in the Daugava River was lowered by 2 metres by building a temporary lock chamber and partially dewatering the quay construction area.

●  Erecting concrete watertight technical rooms with conveyor lines 4—8.5 metres below ground level.
LNK Industries carried out the full cycle of work from design to construction of the terminal buildings and infrastructure, both above and below water. Company specialists designed and manufactured custom constructions of the terminal station and process line, as well as steel structures for the 333-metre-long quay. The result was a turnkey terminal, unrivalled in the Baltic States. Riga Bulk Terminal was awarded 1st prize in the Latvian Construction Annual Awards 2014, in the New Engineering Construction category.
