It has now been four years since the start of construction on the Rail Baltica railway station and related infrastructure at RIX Riga Airport, and a significant volume of work has been completed. The reinforced concrete structures of the station building, the passenger platforms, and the internal section of the overpass have all been built. Additionally, 45 railway viaduct supports – or 85% of the total – have been constructed.
The construction of viaduct supports continues intensively, and the installation of 3-meter-high steel beams connecting the supports has begun. In the airport area, the railway will rise to a height of 13 meters above ground.
Active construction is also ongoing within the restricted area of Riga Airport, while maintaining uninterrupted airport operations. To make way for the railway, engineering networks, the airport’s fuel station, and boiler house are being reconstructed, along with the demolition of existing buildings.
Over the four-year period, a substantial volume of work has been completed: 110,445 m² of roads have been built, 56 km of utility networks have been installed, and 48,105 m³ of concrete and more than 7,500 tons of reinforcement have been delivered to the construction site. The station building alone has required approximately 30,000 m³ of concrete and 6,500 tons of reinforcement. Since 2021, the construction area has expanded significantly, from the original 4,315 m² to 68,600 m² as of June this year.
The next phase will include the installation of approximately 10,000 tons of steel bridge structures, the construction of 2.4 km of railway embankment, and the building of a 115-meter-long overpass across Kārļa Ulmaņa gatve. Currently, the railway construction already stretches 1.5 km, moving steadily toward the next major stage of project development.
LNK Industries is carrying out the construction works as part of the BSL Infra general partnership.
