LNK Industries supports the young mathematicians’ challenge – the 51st Latvian Open Mathematics Olympiad
To test students’ knowledge, logical thinking, and creative approach to solving mathematical problems, the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Latvia is organizing the 51st Latvian Open Mathematics Olympiad (AMO) on 2 November 2025. This annual event brings together school students from across Latvia. This year, the Olympiad is supported by LNK Industries, one of the leading construction companies in the Baltic region, committed to fostering the growth of future engineers through long-term investment in education.
The Olympiad is organized by the Department of Mathematics at the University of Latvia in cooperation with mathematics enthusiasts and former Olympiad participants. University students, many of whom have previously competed in AMO themselves, are also actively involved in organizing and evaluating the competition tasks. This tradition helps maintain close ties between young and experienced mathematics enthusiasts, strengthening knowledge transfer and the cohesion of the academic community.
Last year, more than 6,000 students from all over Latvia took part in the Olympiad, demonstrating the significant role initiatives like this play in talent development and support for STEM education.
“The Open Mathematics Olympiad is highly important for both student development and the overall advancement of mathematics in Latvia,” emphasizes Jānis Bajārs, Head of the Department of Mathematics at the University of Latvia. “It encourages students to think broadly, look for unconventional solutions, and discover how exciting mathematics can be. We are delighted to see former participants return as organizers and help shape the next generation of mathematicians.”
This year, LNK Industries has become a supporter of the Open Mathematics Olympiad, highlighting the company’s belief that interest in engineering starts in school.
“Everything begins with an interest in mathematics — this is how future engineers, builders, and designers are born,” notes Kaspars Ratkevičs, Member of the Board of LNK Industries. “By supporting this Olympiad, we help create an environment where young people can develop logical thinking, creativity, and the ability to tackle complex tasks — skills that are the foundation of every future engineer. It is important for us that Latvia nurtures a new, knowledgeable, and courageous generation capable of building a technologically smart and sustainable future.”
For many years, the Open Mathematics Olympiad has been one of the most significant events in Latvia’s academic and scientific community for school students. It offers every student the opportunity to test their abilities and experience the true joy of mathematical discovery.
