The piers on the left bank of the River Venta are especially important to the locals of the Ventspils port district. They serve as a pedestrian promenade and a harbour for passenger and service vessels. Popular celebrations take place here, such as the Venstpils City Festival and the Sea Festival.

During this reconstruction project, renovation of the bearing metal structures took place, including cleaning and renovating the 1,100-metre-long metal support walls of the facade. After restoration, they were treated with an anticorrosive coating as well as with cathodic protection. Renovation of the reinforced concrete superstructure also took place.

Such works can only be well-executed if done in a dry environment, without the presence of water. In this case, however, they had to be done below sea level. LNK Industries rose to the challenge, designing and manufacturing a special hermetic camera to provide dry conditions underwater. All these measures were undertaken to ensure a longer lifespan for the constructions.
