All six lanes of the Salu Bridge are reopened to traffic
All six lanes of the reconstructed Salu Bridge have been already reopened to traffic and first stage reconstruction works of the bridge will be fully completed by the end of this year.
Nil Ushakov, Chairman of the Riga City Council, and Andris Ameriks, Deputy Chairman of the Council, who visited the renovated Salu Bridge, verified this themselves.
The reconstruction of the bridge began last summer. Since then, "LNK Industries" JSC has been working without service breaks and fully restored the covering of both Salu Bridge and the bridge over the Maza Daugava. The drainage system was fixed, the bridge’s railings were completely replaced, the expansion joints were constructed, LED lighting was installed both at the bridge and in the pedestrian tunnel, and the bridge supports were restored.
"LNK Industries" JSC completed the construction works before the deadline.
Construction works in the pedestrian tunnels will be carried out before the end of this year - the covering will be restored and sidewalk concrete block barriers will be replaced. In addition, a ramp for mothers with baby strollers, people with physical disabilities and cyclists will be arranged.
The total cost of the first stage renovation of the Salu Bridge is 12.38 million euros.
The Salu Bridge was constructed between 1968 and 1976, and since then no substantial repair works were carried out. The plastering of the concrete structures and the top layer of the coating were worn out, there was no lighting in the pedestrian tunnel and the expansion joints were failing to deliver their functionality.
