Rafter celebration held for a new student hotel in Torņkalns

To mark the completion of structurally and technologically fundamental construction works, a celebration of the rafters has been held for modern student hotels at 8 and 12 Jelgavas Street in Riga, in the student-friendly Torņkalns neighbourhood - close to the Academic Centre of the University of Latvia.

A rafter wreath was raised on the roof of one of the future student hotel buildings. The 6,600 square metres of the six- and four-storey buildings will house 240 individual rooms.

The project is developed by I Asset Management in partnership with co-investors MBC Capital Ltd and Towerhill Hostel Ltd, commissioned by J12 Ltd, construction process lead by Bonum Management Ltd, designed by DUAL arhitekti Ltd, while construction works are carried out by LNK Industries JSC , one of the largest construction companies in Latvia. The construction is scheduled to be complete by the end of this summer. The total investment in the project is EUR 12 million.

Kaspars Ratkevičs, Member of the Board of LNK Industries JSC, is pleased with the progress of the project: "For the students, it will be a modern place to live - it meets the requirements of contemporary housing in a convenient location. I am pleased to see that the highest point of the hotel building is decorated with a rafter wreath, which represents the completion of major construction works, clearly outlining the silhouettes of the future buildings. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, the construction of the facility is successfully progressing so that in the next academic year, after a busy and intensive day of studies, students in Riga will be able to return to pleasant home."

Aleksandrs Čepiguss, Chairman of the Board of DUAL arhitekti Ltd: "The architectural solution of the student hotel complex fits well into the historical Jelgavas Street, creating synergy with the educational buildings of the University of Latvia and the Mūkusala Business Centre office building complex across the Kilevena ditch. The building features modern finishing materials, a contemporary interior, a well-organised environment, and thoughtful landscaping. The interiors are finished in exposed concrete and wood, facades feature extensive window glazing. A landscaped terrace with seating areas along Kilevena ditch creates a bright and cosy atmosphere, taking care of student life outside. The design process of the building complex was a good experience for our company. We hope that our architectural solutions will be well received by the residents themselves!"

The new student hotel will be an independently run facility designed to accommodate students from different universities. The hotel's primary audience is international students who come here to study. The lack of quality accommodation is one of the main obstacles to attracting international students. The student building will have spacious common areas for relaxation, sports and studying. Unlike the dormitories we are used to, where several students stay in one room, the new dormitory will have spacious single rooms.

LNK Industries JSC began the construction of the building the last summer, and currently, the roof and facades of the building are under construction, while partition walls, engineering networks and floors are constructed indoors. Soon, the landscaping of the premises will begin. The works are progressing according to schedule, and LNK Industries JSC expects to complete the construction works within the pre-set deadlines.
